Client case: Stena Line
Stena Line is one of the largest ferry operators in the world. Their 38 ships and ferries transport 7.6 million passengers, 1.7 million cars and 2.1 million freight units, every year. Lexidor is a long time partner to Stena Line. For this project we provided inspection of signage and developed a complete drawings archive system for the Stena Line fleet.

"One sign system and drawing archive to rule them all"

Coordinating all 38 ships and ferries in the Stena Line fleet is a massive task. Every year, the fleet transports around 7.6 million passengers, 1.7 million cars and 2.1 million freight units. Having a user friendly, consistent and traceable system for all interior and exterior signs helps Stena Line stay consistent and compliant on every vessel.

– We needed a functional and coherent system for the entire Stena Line fleet. A system for both existing ships and new additions to the fleet, says Jonas Tullock, Fleet Manager at Stena Line.

Compliancy with all marine jurisdiction and standards
One of the key aims of the project was to ensure compliancy throughout the fleet. Given that the ships have been manufactured during a long time frame, different rules and standards apply across the fleet.

– When we started the work, we had drawings in many different formats, saved in a variety of ways across the fleet. Lexidor helped us to develop a tailor-made, future proof drawings archive system. It saves us a lot of time and helps to ensure that all drawings are correct and compliant.

A coherent, easily recognizable system for both staff and passengers

As part of the project, Stena Line also wanted to create a consistent signage profile towards both passengers and staff.

– We always want to communicate in a coherent way, across all ships. Consistency and recognition throughout the fleet creates a secure environment and makes it easier for us to identify potential inadequacies.

How did Lexidor help?
Based on the brief from Stena Line, Lexidor did a suggestion for structure of the register, its maintenance, back-up and accessibility.

– We used an ID-system based on our internal system and wanted to continue using that nomenclature, continues Jonas. We also wanted to collect and archive standard packages of drawings for each ship. Lexidor helped us develop a system for this along with a sign manual for the entire fleet that contained all available sign systems.
