Lexidor was founded in the 1880s by Victor Lindberg. Initially the company was named Lindbergs Skyltaffär. Back then our main business was the production of labels and and signs for pharmacies. Of course, many things have changed since then, but the core remains.
Lexidor through the years
Lindbergs Skyltaffär is founded by Victor Lindberg.The business starts with mainly “pharmacy signs”.
After Lindberg, Holger Genbeck took over the company—then located at Norra Hamngatan 28 in Gothenburg. The company then focused on selling hand-painted signs.
Genbeck sells the company in 1945 to Gunnar Svegelius.
The company moves to Stureplatsen 3.
The company is moving again, this time to Haga Nygatan 7-9.
The business is now focused on hand-painted and enamelled signs. Lindbergs then has permission to manufacture license plates for vehicles, they are largely manufactured by enamel at this time.
Lindbergs Skyltaffär becomes supplier to Stena Line.
Engraving has now become a major feature of the business.
The company moves to Risåsgatan.
Gunnar Svegelius sells the company to the current owner; Mikael Juliusson.
Lindbergs Skyltaffär now becomes Lindbergs Skyltaffär AB.
Lindbergs moves to Waterloogatan.
The time for enamel signs is now over and Lindbergs is developing with computer-controlled production.
Foiled signs represent a large part of the production.
The Lexidor brand is registered. Primarily as marking of products / services that are governed by regulations.
Evacuation signage, drawings and instructions are developed as part of the signage program.
The customer requirement for signage controlled by regulations is increasing and developing towards a CAD business.
Lindbergs moves to Marieholmsgatan 54 in Gothenburg.
Computer-controlled mechanical engraving is installed as a development of the older “hand-hunted” machines. Large format printers also become a welcome addition in production we this time.
Mikael Juliusson and Olle Persson are the last in the company that manufactured signs according to the old craft.
The engraving park is developed with a computer-controlled laser.

One step in the development and in order to confirm the work, the company carries out ISO 9001 and 14001 certification. 9001 is a quality system that describes the business and 14001 helps us with the environmental work.
A 3D printer is installed as a new part of the company’s history.
We are the largest printer in the Nordic countries this time and have a unique ability to print the entire CMYK scale.
Lexidor as a trademark is registered for the EU.
The machine park is being expanded with Sweden’s largest CO2 laser machine open to external customers.
The company undergoes MED B and D certification by Lloyds. MED B is a product-specific quality requirement and MED D is a requirement for production assurance.
The company makes a name change to Lexidor AB. One important reason is that our international customers should be able to identify with our range of products and services. With the name Lexidor AB, we also strengthen the development of our Lexidor® brand.
Lindberg’s sign business remains as a bi-company.

Moving to Kungälv: an exciting step on the Lexidor growth journey
Lexidor has been a Gothenburg based signage company since the 1880s. So when the company moves to new locations outside of Gothenburg on June 4 it is kind of a big thing.
– We are living our Lexidor legacy every day, says CEO Mikael Juliusson. For almost 140 years that has meant being a Gothenburg company. So moving to Kungälv, north of Gothenburg, is a big thing for us.
During the year, the company have made a major upgrade of the machinery.
In addition to mechanical and laser engraving, there is now a powerful CNC machine with a working area of 3000x2000mm.
The old Solvent printer has been replaced with next generation and a UV flatbed printer has been added to the deparment.
